Like many of his tweets, Trump refers to this "FAKE NEWS" that has baffled as many as it has intrigued. There has never been a politician that has used social media, particularly Twitter in Donald Trump's case, that has made a political candidate so polarizing and talked about. Trump's tweets divided our nation more than we ever thought possible. Look at the replies to his tweets and it is almost all backlash or people in defense of the backlash Trump is getting. We are in a new era of politics that the internet age has brought to our nation whether we like it or not. President Trump has changed how we will look at social media use in any political race, big or small. As easy as it would be to talk about Donald Trumps Twitter I need to move onto the other social media outlets Trump uses.

So what has our 45th President of the United States done well on social media one might ask. Donald Trump for one is an entertainer. Because of his online presence Trump has not left news coverage since he declared for presidency. Whether this is good coverage or bad, Trump is still getting his face in the media forcing the nation to always have him on the back of their minds. It is with the massive amount of content that an average voter can be overwhelmed with what the now president is trying to say. This doesn't matter that Trump is spitting (pardon my French) bullshit, half the time. The American people were sick of being "politically correct" and appreciated the informality that Trump had in his online presence. Americans were sick of the political machine and wanted a candidate they felt was like them. Trump answered that call and was vocal about showing no remorse for anything that he put out on the internet. Believing that what he put out there was straight for him and what he had to say was in the best interest of our country.
While Trump has done surprisingly well in regards to his online presence, there is room for improvement. Donald Trump thrives on being sparatic which can also lead to his downfall. He needs to think about some of the consequences about the things that he posts. Right now Donald Trump is around a 43% approval rate among the U.S. citizens and if Trump doesn't think before he posts for some issues this could fall even more. This will likely not happen, but if I was Trump's online supervisor I would try to restrain some controversial statements Trump might want to make.
I found Trumps tweets to be the most interesting. In Trump's tweets you can see all the sides of the man that has taken the country by storm. The tweets seemed to engage his followers the most in the polarity that they provide and how much attention they draw from either political party. It will be interesting to see what Trump does with his online precense going forward.

Create points throughout. I didn't even think about how he has been an entertainer most of his life and how that probably played a huge role in how much he used social media throughout his campaign. You never mentioned, however, how much trump like to go back and forth with news outlets and celebrities a big part of his social media use in my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI agree that Trump's twitter usage has sort of divides our country. I find his tweets very entertaining too, but they're a little concerning coming from our president. I would also like to see him better monitor his tweets. Our country can't handle too many more careless tweets.
ReplyDeleteI'd have to agree with everyone. Twitter can be a diversionary tool in any setting. Having a President that is for a lack of a better word, "abusing" social media is pitiful. In any other office setting such rants could be grounds for being fired. The fact that this guy is walking the fine line of Freedom of Speech amazes me that other politicians haven't spoken up about the issue.
ReplyDeleteYour post was very real and truthful which I love reading in these blogs. You are right about him spouting BS too, it's his most effective tool. It is sad that we have resorted to choosing a man from Hollywood as opposed to a person from academia or a political historical background. I think we as American's scared ourselves into this situation with Trump as President. If we weren't so "against" politicians maybe we would have someone in office without such a massive ego and an actual healthcare plan.
