Debates- Donald Trump in the Final Presidential Debate

Donald Trump Takes on Hillary Clinton in the Second Presidential Debate

https://youtu.be/K2ukHnZi9_k

While being unpredictable has been one of Donald Trumps strengths when he was a presidential candidate this clip of highlights from the second debate show when they can lead the now president astray. From the opening question that Anderson Cooper asks concerning the allegations that Donald Trump had sexually assaulted women in the past and said he could "grab them by the p***y", Trump seemed to have his own agenda for the debate.

So with that being said, we move on to what the president did well in his second debate against the Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. As had been throughout his campaign, Trump loved to critique his opponent to no end. Claiming in this clip that Hillary had done nothing during her thirty years in politics. Despite admitting his lack of experience Trump claims that he would get the topics he talks about done unlike his "crooked Hillary" as he liked to call her throughout the campaign trail.

Trump supporters ate up the name calling and discontent he showed towards any candidate that he went up against throughout his campaign trail. They stood behind his controversial stances on a number of topics including immigration, gun laws, and refugees to name a few. So while a Hillary supporter may have watched the debate and thought that everything Trump had to say was preposterous, the Trump supporters saw the interruptions of Hillary and controversial stances as being a strong leader, someone that would veer them away for what they felt was a terrible eight years under former President Barack Obama.
Now lets get to the parts of the debate that Donald Trump struggled. This second debate was arguably his worst debate among the three that took place between the two presidential candidates. As I had mentioned earlier, Trump was asked about his comments toward women in which he claimed he could do vulgar things to them without any consequences. In his defense he first went on a tangent similar to the GIF above that claimed "no one likes women more than him". A statement he has used for more than just women. When asked about being a racist towards the black community or Mexicans Trump replied the same way, claiming that whatever race he had been called out for criticizing loved him. This is what ended up being Trumps biggest weakness during the second presidential debate. He had no clear and rationale answers. Even for Trump some of the answers he gave when criticized by Hillary were clearly veering away from the original accusation to something that had little resemblance to what was being asked. To go along with this, Trump interrupted Clinton multiple times, making it so that Anderson Cooper had to ask Trump to wait until it was his turn to speak. This came off as unprofessional and someone that did not respect the general rules of a debate. In a normal debate each candidate should have their own time to speak regardless if the other candidate disagrees or thinks they are lying.

If I were to be Donald Trumps campaign advisor I would first tell him to keep being outspoken. While if I was running for president would not do the same thing, this is something that had gotten Trump this far. This is something that his voters looked towards for in all of the now presidents debates. On the other hand, when asked certain questions and having to go on the defense I would suggest that Trump be more direct, answering the questions straight up instead of veering away from what is being said. Veering away from the questions only makes the audience think that he has something to hide which is the exact opposite of what you would want (obviously). Even if what Trump had to say was vague, I think voters would respect him more if that statement was more on topic to what was being asked.

As far as issues to address, I think it would stay the same with the other blogs that I have posted. Keep in touch with the gun issues and ensure his voters that he would give them the second amendment rights that they hold dearly. Along with this Trump should focus on the tax breaks he could offer towards schools and businesses throughout the country. Immigration needs to be addressed with Trump sticking to what he has stood behind, making sure to not go back on anything he has said in the past. Donald Trump is one of the most unique candidates we have seen and an extremely hard politician to read. The best thing to do would be to let him be the outspoken person that voters feel so strongly towards.

Political Speeches Blog #3

Trump Rally in Bangor Maine 10/15/16- https://youtu.be/iNgpLr6QGGM

When watching this rally speech that now President Donald Trump conducted in Bangor, Maine I noticed the amount of veterans that were sitting behind him. These veterans heard exactly what they had felt had been missing from President Obama’s presidency, and that is that our veterans have been forgotten. Classified with these veterans is this group of voters of “outsiders” that Trump did such a good job of targeting. These “outsiders” are low class, white, Americans that feel that they had been forgotten by these typical politicians that are supposedly only concerned about themselves. This is what Trump did so well. He guaranteed recognition towards these veteran voters and that the military would receive more funding, something that these voters had felt had been missing. To go along with this, Trump also promised tax cuts and the second amendment to be enforced more than it has been with the Obama administration. These firm statements of action are something that suited Trump so well and played to what his voters wanted, drastic change.

While surprisingly I thought Donald Trump’s rally speech was strong, there was definitely some weaknesses to his speech which is to be expected from any speech. First off, while it was his strong suit, some of the promises like so many things that he said throughout his campaign trail are vague statements. These vague statements are hard to follow through with when you don’t have any evidence to back it up. I realize this is a rally speech and it’s meant more for moral boosting than it is fact checking, but as a voter I personally would like to know how he would get the plans he had for the country done. For instance, he mentions that over 70,000 factories have been shut down in a short amount of years in the United States. He claims that he is going make negotiations with NAFTA to decrease the number of closed down factories in the United States. This is a decent idea in theory, just saying that you are going to negotiate with NAFTA doesn’t give his voters any evidence of how these negotiations will result in factories being opened again.

If I were to help Trump with this rally speech I would suggest that he doesn’t attack the current president and instead put what he did in lighter terms. I know Trump prides himself in not being afraid to say what he feels, but this is before he was elected and sheds a negative light towards Trump for potential swing voters that might like former President Obama for what he had done. That being said, it is obvious Trump was not concerned with any voters other than hardcore Republicans. I just believe morally it should not be accepted to bash a current president that directly. While he did mention tax cuts, I think this was one of the stronger arguments that he made during this rally speech and something he should continue to stand behind and shed light on. Tax cuts is something that most Americans can get behind, more money in people’s pockets is something we could all use. Finally, his arguments over keeping the second amendment rights intact and giving the veterans the benefits they deserve. This drew the strongest reaction among the crowd and seemed to be an important factor in Trumps election in November.

SWOT of Donald Trump

                                         S.W.O.T. Analysis of Donald Trump
When one thinks of Donald Trump they think of power. Whether that is in a positive or negative way it is something that latches on to Trumps persona and a major reason for his rise to presidency. Taken from CNN.com Julian Zeilezer writes “Trump often gets away with it. He says many different things, providing a little bit for many to agree with. He refuses to get pinned down when questioned about these inconsistencies. He has argued that flexibility is a positive, particularly in a president who needs to negotiate with Congress and leaders overseas” (“Clinton vs. Trump”, 2016). Despite what Trump was quoted saying towards the end of this excerpt being debatable, the rest is not. For whatever reason being, Trump has gotten away with going back on his statements along with giving people what they want to hear in different parts of his rebuttal’s and arguments. Going along with this, Trump is notorious for his online presence, tweeting whatever seems to come to his mind. Becoming somewhat of a meme Trump has won over American voters in ways that would not have been possible ten years ago.
This leads to Trumps weaknesses. Donald Trump among many Americans is seen as a racist, irrational, and inconsolable at times. Daniel Maran from the Huffington Post makes this point while pointing out Trumps campaign team. He states “Steve Bannon, Trump’s chief strategist and senior counselor, was executive chairman of Breitbart, a news site that Bannon dubbed the “home of the alt-right” ― a euphemism that describes a loose coalition of white supremacists and aligned groups. Under Bannon’s leadership, Breitbart increased its accommodation of openly racist and anti-Semitic writing, capitalizing on the rise of white nationalism prompted by Trump’s campaign” (“15 Examples of Trump Being Racist”, 2016). Unfortunately for most Americans besides white Christian males this is a disadvantage. There have been outcries over Trumps racist picks for the positions in the White House. Building off these white male voters Donald Trump has made a living of hate and the feeling of being left out. While this is an opportunity for Trump, this brings about the biggest weakness. Ninety-five percent of other Americans that are not white are against Trump asking for him to be impeached. Protests all across America have taken place protesting the issues that Trump has stood behind and asking for his impeachment.
As far as the issues go, as I have mentioned, Trump has been big on immigration. Something that he has stood behind since the beginning (surprising for Trump). He believes that jobs are being taken away from “American” workers and being given to foreigners. So one of the solutions that Trump has is to build a wall to keep out immigrants from Mexico. Security of the United States has been at the top of the priority list for Trump. Along with this he has backed Planned Parenthood, stood for the ownership of guns among other Republican ideals.
I would say the two campaign members that stick out to me for President Trump is Kellyanne Conway and Steve Bannon who I mentioned earlier. First with Kellyanne Conway, she is the backbone to the Trump team, backing up statements that the President has made along the way as the counselor to the President. She is known for her outlandish statements and has made plenty of appearances on talk shows to talk about the current issues the Trump administration is facing. Then we have Steve Bannon, who like Conway and Trump is an outsider to the political world, but nevertheless serving as Trumps chief strategist. Bannon represents the Trump campaign in his business savvy ways and erratic behavior. He makes perfect sense for a campaign that is full of optimism and is focusing most of its energy on the business sides of the political world.
